Create and Manage App-specific Passwords
An App-specific Password is a unique, randomly generated password that lets an email application or device access your mailbox without using your main email password.
Use an App-specific Password when adding your ExtendyMail account to applications such as Outlook, Apple Mail, or a mail app on your phone, especially when two-factor authentication is enabled.
Using a different password for each application or device helps protect your main password. It also lets you remove access from one application or a lost device without changing the password used everywhere else.
You can create up to four App-specific Passwords for each email account.
An App-specific Password is shown only once, immediately after it is generated. Enter it directly into the application or copy it to a secure password manager.
If you close the screen or lose the password, it cannot be displayed again. Remove it and generate a new one instead.
Create an App-specific Password
- Sign in to ExtendyMail webmail.
- Select Settings from the sidebar.
- From the settings menu, select Password.
- Under App password, select the plus sign (+).
- Enter a descriptive name that identifies the application or device, such as
Outlook on work laptoporMail on iPhone. - Copy the generated password or enter it directly into the email application.
When the application asks for your account password, enter the generated App-specific Password instead of your normal email password. Continue using your full email address as the username.
Give every App-specific Password a clear name and avoid using the same password on multiple applications or devices. This makes it easier to remove only the access you no longer need.
Remove an App-specific Password
Remove an App-specific Password when you stop using an application, replace or lose a device, or believe that the password may have been exposed.
- Sign in to ExtendyMail webmail.
- Select Settings from the sidebar.
- Select Password, then locate App Passwords.
- Select the minus sign (−) beside the password you want to remove.
- Confirm the removal if requested.
The application or device using that password will no longer be able to access your mailbox. You can generate a new App-specific Password if you want to reconnect it.
